Tuesday

I have something to admit, I cried during the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I was at the cinema, aged 10. The scene where Splinter is tortured destroyed me.

Which one of the above would you be?
Ming The Merciless right hand girl, Gareth Pugh inspiration surely?
Or, Flash Gordon's earth lady? who's a bit spunky, I am using the American meaning of the word, not the English, that would just be wrong.
Or would you be Ming's daughter, the achingly beautiful, overtly sexual & manipulative Princess Aura?

Space Is The Place

i
I am ashamed of myself. Blogging with the regularity that I do, and this is my first mention of Sun Ra.
Fail.
This film is deep, you need to see it I tell thee. What more do you want than: Black power, free jazz, Sci-Fi, politics and incredible fashion? This film has it all, the only thing wrong with it in my opinion, is that it is too short (82 minutes)

The plot goes like this: Sun Ra has been reported lost, nobody has seen him since his last European tour in 1969. This is because he has been travelling through space with his crew, the Arkestra. They find a planet suitable for the resuscitation of the black race.He then travels back and forth through time, using music as his mode of transportation. (Genius) He comes to earth to find people who want to travel through space with him, to live on the planet he found.
This is our galaxy apparently
On one of his journeys back, he has a card game with the pimp overlord, to decide the fate of the black race. This overseer is Sun Ra's main enemy through the film.
The Overseer, incarnation of evil in the Black community who poses himself to be a community leader and a man of charity. But in fact, he is the tool of the power structure. Ra is also pursued by White government agents (presumably from FBI) who attempt to assassinate him. On the other hand, Jimmy Fey is representative of the Black people in entertainment industry and mass media.

Space is the place is full of metaphors and music, my idea of a brilliant film.
Go get it, quick.
even if this story is revisionist autobiography ... Sonny was pulling together several strains of his life. He was both prophesying his future and explaining his past with a single act of personal mythology.-- John F. Szwed, Space Is the Place: The Lives and Times of Sun Ra (Pantheon, 1997

Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?

Metropolis is one of the best films ever made. I think it was done around the 1920's. Some say it has not stood the test of time, but I reckon it has.
I love this woman, she is called Rachael, a chracter from a Philip K Dick book. If I could, I would dress like her everyday. 1940's Style.
The Bionic Woman, I find it hard to look at this face without laughing, it's like a robot surprised owl.Klaus Kinski, scary ass mofo, but so lush also. I would totally do what ever he said.
One of the best music video's I reckon. Chris Cunningham is always on top of his game. The Jetsons, the wonderful jetsons cartoon. I need to be watching more cartoons these days, I spend too much time, ahem, working, yes thats right, in my world, just being in the office is work.Moscow cold war robots. How good is her dress? Talking of dresses, I have the most tip top costume for my Sci-Fi party, I am a strong contender for first prize. Anybody who shouts fix can eat my shorts, time and money went into my garments. Sci-Fi is a way of life people. Pictures will be posted.I love him, in many ways Data is my idea of the perfect man.
